Description
This rail yard shunter uses a large and powerful military-grade boiler to power its two massive pistons, which must be mounted horizontally and connected to the drive wheels via beams due to the compact chassis. The firebox has two hatches; the rear one to initially start the fire and stoke the boiler to full steam, and the other hatch on the platform covers a coal chute so that the engineer can stoke the boiler from the elevated forward position where he pilots. These small yet strong railtugs are also commonly used as 'slave engines' to augment the pulling power of freight locomotives. During the Great Steam War, these tiny shunters were occasionally covered in armor, looking like enormous metal cubes, and used in combat as scouts. These improvised reconnaissance vehicles were slow, but could carry plenty of armor and could withstand quite a pounding from enemy fire, giving them enough time to get to safety.
